How we compare cashback portals

Every cashback portal in this directory was evaluated against four criteria that materially affect the dollar amount a typical US household earns per year of online shopping: (1) the spread of published rates across our 150-retailer panel, (2) the minimum payout threshold and the speed of clearing pending balances, (3) the value of the new-member sign-up bonus relative to the average first-quarter portal earnings, and (4) the operational reliability of cashback tracking, measured by the proportion of qualifying orders that posted to pending within ten business days of the order in our internal test panel last quarter.

The portal hub pages linked above include the current published rate at all 150 retailers we track on this site, sorted highest-first. If you only have time to learn one portal, we recommend starting with the one currently paying the highest rate on the retailer where you spend the most online — for most US households that is either Amazon, Walmart, or Target, and the highest published rate at all three changes meaningfully across the eight portals on a weekly basis.
